Winners at Wincanton!
Over 90 racing enthusiasts from across the region recently enjoyed a fantastic day at the races and raised nearly £2,000 for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
Supported by local businesses Savills, Dyne Drewett and Trethowans, guests had a track side view of all the racing action and were expertly guided through the card by Joe Tizzard and Brendon Powell jnr.
R.A.B.I. trustee Chris Riddle said: – “‘It’s been a great day, bringing so many people together to support such a vital charity and support the farming industry."
The day was also supported by Barclays bank who match funded the raffle and auction.
Staying Fit and Safe
In a joint initiative with Somerset NHS, R.A.B.I. and FCN together with other charities, Sedgemoor Auction Centre has opened a fitness advice centre. Farmers and their families attending the South West's largest auction market can now get advice about staying fit, healthy and safe on the farm. The initiative, which was launched in December, includes a new health room facility.
Wedmore YFC held their annual Welly Disco and at a recent meeting presented South West Regional Manager, Pam Wills, with a cheque for £1,500.
Fundraising by Somerset Rotary Club
The BBC's voice of show jumping and equestrian events, Mike Tucker, was the special guest speaker at a charity dinner organised by Shepton Mallet Rotary Club at Wincanton Racecourse. The event, which included an auction, raised funds for R.A.B.I., SOS Africa and other local causes.
A total of £2,400 was raised on the evening with R.A.B.I. receiving £800.
