Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Steve Smith and accomplices Glen Chambers and Ivan Karier ploughed through the night at Welton Cliff near Lincoln to raise money for R.A.B.I and the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust.
Starting at 5.30pm on Friday August 26, this epic ‘ploughathon’ finished exactly 24 hours, 142 acres and roughly 1,200 litres of diesel later. More than £1,500 has been pledged so far, much of it from local agricultural businesses.
Steve said: “My brother and I were farmers in Lincolnshire and R.A.B.I supported us when we were in great need. I like to do my bit to give back to this worthy cause. You never know when you might need to call upon the likes of R.A.B.I and GWT. When I became ill and could no longer work, they were there to support me and help me retain the quality of life for which I’d worked so hard.”
Louth Tractors kindly supplied the plough and tractor with Rainthorpe Farms providing the 1.25-mile field.
