R.A.B.I has sent out around 800 Christmas hampers – at a cost of £40-£50k – to provide some much needed festive cheer to those in financial difficulty in the farming world.
It’s been a tough year for many in the farming sector and R.A.B.I’s head of welfare, Trish Pickford, says sending someone a Christmas hamper is a ‘personal touch to show that someone cares’. R.A.B.I also regularly sends its beneficiaries birthday cards.
The hampers contain such things as Christmas cards and notelets, Christmas cake and mince pies. R.A.B.I tailors them to suit dietary needs and tastes, providing vegetarian, diabetic, gluten-free and dairy-free options. An individual family hamper is worth around £75 and a single hamper £47. The bulk of the hampers are delivered by Leeds-based family firm Festival Foods, but many are delivered personally to the door by the charity’s own volunteers.
This Christmas, R.A.B.I has also sent out additional food vouchers to many people in hardship – while around 50 people received bouquets of flowers in lieu of a hamper.
