A talk by the Aintree Racecourse chair, Rose Paterson (above) raised a fabulous £1650 in July. Until April last year, Rose was arguably better known as the wife of former cabinet minister and current North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson.
Over the years, she has played a huge, behind-the-scenes role in his successful political career, which saw him rise to the post of Environment Secretary in the Coalition Government, following a spell as Northern Ireland Secretary, as well as holding his seat for the Conservatives for the past 18 years.
Now, though, Rose has been thrust into the national spotlight herself and has used it to help build awareness of the struggles that farmers face in today’s financial and political climate.
R.A.B.I Regional Manager for the West Midlands, Kate Jones, said: “We would like to thank our kind hosts, David and Helen Kent, for opening up Welbatch Farm to the Shropshire committee and our guests. R.A.B.I needs key figures to help spread awareness of our cause and we’re grateful to Rose for speaking today.”
The talk coincided with R.A.B.I’s Cream Tea Campaign, and the committee had made suitable refreshments.
