The sound of bagpipes greeted guests at a traditional Burns Night dinner in January at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, in Dawlish. Organised by R.A.B.I’s Devon committee of volunteers, the evening attracted 93 supporters and raised around £1,300.
Committee member John Smith recited the Selkirk Grace and the star of the dinner, the haggis, was accompanied by the piper as it was carried in by the hotel chef. The traditional ‘Addressing of the Haggis’ was read in style by Norman Wallwork.
Principal organiser, committee member Andrew Goodridge, said “This is our 10th Burns Night and we find it a fantastic way to start our fundraising year. We estimate we have raised around £17,000 from this event over the years, thanks to the generosity of the guests and local companies that provide raffle prizes and auction lots. Most of us are farmers and we know how many farming families are facing difficulties. We do all we can to help.”
