On 5 June, Masham Town Hall resounded with the sound of Yorkshire-based choirs Musicality, and the Highside Singers. More than 150 people attended the event, organised by R.A.B.I supporter David Longster and the North Yorkshire committee, and over £1,200 was raised.
The next day, an event in Northumberland, raised £700 as part of R.A.B.I’s Cream Tea Campaign held at Earsden East Farm, Morpeth, by kind permission of Northumberland Committee members Fred and Helen Ryle. Despite having to take refuge inside due to a turn in the weather, fifty-five people enjoyed homemade cakes and scones.
A classic car and cream tea event in Weardale, County Durham on 21 June proved a hit when car enthusiasts from all over Yorkshire descended on the farm of committee members John and Carol Oulton. Car enthusiasts themselves, John and Carol decided to combine their love of old cars with fundraising for R.A.B.I – a cause close to their hearts – and raised a fantastic £1,100 to be split between R.A.B.I and the Special Care Baby Unit at Darlington Hospital.
In East Yorkshire, the Driffield Show was once again the highlight of the agricultural calendar when around 25,000 visitors walked through the gates in North Humberside. The East Yorkshire committee were busy greeting people at the R.A.B.I stand where a competition to ‘balance a 20p on a lemon’ raised some much needed pennies, as well as frustrating many of the visitors! One of the highlights of the show however, was when members of East Riding YFC and Barclays Bank presented cheques totalling £3,820 to R.A.B.I and Yorkshire Air Ambulance from the 8th Annual Charity Tractor Road Run which was held on 31st May in Etton near Beverley – read more here.
