The weekend, organised by R.A.B.I Carmarthenshire committee, included an evening of music featuring the Dinefwr Male Voice Choir under the guidance of John Williams and Ben Montigue, and a well-attended whist drive the following evening. Compere for the Saturday evening, Ivor Davies, recited some of his favourite poems and President of the evening, Hybu Cig Cymru’s Dai Davies, gave a purposeful speech and an extremely generous donation to the cause.
Notable attendees included MP Jonathan Edwards and wife Emma, along with Peter Hughes Griffiths, chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council. Carmarthenshire committee Ladies were in good form and prepared food for both evenings.
Last year, R.A.B.I gave out more than £41,000 in Carmarthenshire alone. R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “Every year, many new people ask R.A.B.I for help. Whatever the reasons, their problems are rarely of their own making and their pleas never made out of choice. Extreme weather, illness, accidents, animal disease, family breakdown and bereavement are reasons why people come to R.A.B.I. There is a perception in some public quarters that all farmers are wealthy, but this is not the case. Many live below the poverty line and most are self-employed – and only have an income if they’ve something to sell. Farming is a vital industry, bringing the food you eat to your table. When they need help, R.A.B.I is there and we’re proud of the support we can offer.”
Carmarthenshire county chairman Gwynne Williams (pictured above, centre) added: “I would like to thank Dai Davies for his kindness and all the artists for a wonderful evening of entertainment.”
