Gillian and Brian Hesselgrave won the South East regional award at R.A.B.I’s annual awards ceremony.
One of their most impressive achievements is arranging an annual farmhouse breakfast in Hellingly, East Sussex. They originally hosted this in their own sitting room, but over the years the number of guests increased and they moved the event to the local village hall. They now serve around 220 breakfasts each year over two sittings on two mornings.
The couple source the produce themselves and find sponsorship. Their efforts help to raise an average of £3,000 per year. The breakfasts are so popular that people need to book in advance.
Gillian and Brian could not attend the Oxfordshire ceremony so their award was accepted by close friends and fellow committee members Gillian Van Der Meer and Simon Earthrowl. Gillian and Simon are pictured with Lord Plumb (left).
