Hywel Owens, a farmer from Sarnau in Ceredigion, presented R.A.B.I with a cheque for £900 at a fundraising dinner in Llanarth.
Hywel’s brother Lyn passed away recently and the family requested donations in lieu of flowers. Around £1,800 was collected with £900 also donated to the Wales Air Ambulance.
R.A.B.I’s fundraising dinner was held at the Llanina Arms and Hywel spoke briefly on the night to express his thanks to friends and family for their support and generous donations.
Guest speaker at the dinner was Abi Reader, NFU Cymru’s Wales Woman Farmer of the Year who gave an insight into her background, her venture into the dairy industry and her ‘Cows on Tour’ initiative to educate children about food and farming.
R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “I’d like to thank the Ceredigion committee for staging another successful beef dinner at Llanina and to all of our supporters who provided auction and raffle prizes. Geraint James of Dai Lewis Auctioneers did a superb job running the auction.”
Ceredigion committee county chair Joan Jones added: “On behalf of the committee I would like to thank Hywel for thinking of us at this difficult time and for presenting us with such a significant sum of money. I’d also like to thank the Llanina Arms and Abi Reader, our guest speaker, for giving such an inspirational speech. Her passion for dairying shone through.”
More than £1,600 was raised for R.A.B.I on the night through ticket sales and the raffle and auction.
