The 10th annual fundraising Farmhouse Breakfast held at Hellingly Village Hall, East Sussex, was another resounding success.
216 breakfasts were served to supporters over five hours, raising a total of £2,600. The event was kindly organised by Gill and Brain Hesselgrave who brought along friends and family to help throughout the day, clearing and re-laying tables, washing-up and cooking.
Guests started their breakfast with delicious homemade muesli, stewed plums and yoghurts and fresh apple juice followed by a full English breakfast, homemade marmalade, jams and lovely fresh bread.
In keeping with the theme of supporting British producers, the ingredients were sourced from local suppliers wherever possible including Hackhurst Lane Piggery (sausages), Egypt Farm (bacon and sausages), Tendring Fruit Farm (apple juice) and Shirley Reed (marmalade).
Mel Ellis, Agricultural Manager at Barclays Bank, kindly came along for the day and helped to plate up each breakfast as the orders came into the kitchen. Her support and match funding was really appreciated.
Despite the cramped kitchen conditions it was a great, if tiring, team effort, with lots of laughter and lots very full and happy punters.
