A stud tour fundraiser has raised an impressive £2,528 for R.A.B.I. Ninety guests attended the event at the 9,000 acre Fonthill Estate in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, with managing agents and farm staff providing tours of the estate.
The Fonthill Estate is best known for having bred some of the best horses in the racing world and the stud is currently home to 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden. As well as preparing mostly yearlings for the sales, horses are taken in for rest and recovery. The estate, first bought by James Morrison in 1830, is now owned by Alastair, third Lord Margadale, who joined touring groups to give a fascinating insight into the day-to-day workings of the stud.
Guests enjoyed Wiltshire beef burgers from The Traditional Beef Company and R.A.B.I regional manager Jenni Thompson said: “It was a lovely sunny evening in the Wiltshire countryside and Fowler Fortescue – managing agents and Velcourt farm staff – provided fantastic, informative tour guides. Our hosts were extremely accommodating and welcoming to R.A.B.I guests, making it a great social occasion as well as a terrific fundraiser.”
