Fundraising really does run in the blood as we found out when Ruth Thwaites, her two brothers, seven nieces and nephews and two in-laws undertook the gruelling Gelt Gladiator challenge for R.A.B.I in May.
Nicknamed #TeamThwaites, the gang raced around the mud obstacle course located about 2 miles from Brampton, Cumbria and enjoyed a well-deserved champagne finish.
Ruth says that they all ranged from avid gym users and new mothers to stubborn farmers: “But we all have one thing in common: we are Thwaites!” and she added: “I have chosen R.A.B.I as my cause because it stands proud for all that my dad was about.”
Farming is very close to this family’s heart and as well as fundraising and raising awareness of the financial struggles within farming communities, Ruth’s sister Pat Davies has been a trustee of the charity since 2013.
Last year, R.A.B.I gave out more than £31,000 to farming people in financial difficulty in Cumbria.
Thank you #TeamThwaites!
