The granddaughter of one of our care home residents has held a fundraising afternoon tea, in recognition of the ‘wonderful care’ her grandmother receives at Manson House, ‘by the kindest and most dedicated staff’.
Katy Last invited her closest friends and family to a ‘Prosecco-Fuelled Afternoon Tea’, where she put on a delicious array of home made food including roulades, smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, baby meringues, mini eclairs, florentine slices and freshly baked scones.
Katy explains, “I knew I wanted to raise some money for R.A.B.I to show our appreciation and thanks, but I knew running a marathon or a midnight walk was not my style.
“I have a group of girlfriends and together we have formed an afternoon tea club. We have frequented some of Suffolk’s finest tea offering establishments and scored them accordingly. Last summer, during my ‘harvest widow’ existence I hosted the club at my house, scoring rather highly, but I’m sure my friends were rather biased. However, it did plant the seed for my fundraising idea.”
As well as putting on a delicious tea, Katy and her sister-in-law also worked hard to source prizes for a grand raffle including donations from Fram Farmers, Adnams, Palfrey and Hall, Coes, Easton Farm Park, Lucy Jane Florists, and more. There was also a silent auction for Vice President Tickets for the 2017 Suffolk Show, generously donated by The Suffolk Agricultural Association.
In all, the afternoon raised a fabulous £700 which Katy was delighted with. “I was overwhelmed by the support of my friends, but am so glad we can offer a tiny bit back.
“My Grandma has been a resident at Manson House for nearly a year. We have witnessed her transform from an individual ready to give up on life to someone who has a renewed zest for living. Her accommodation is cosy and warm, she enjoys being so close to the town centre, the regular hairdresser visits, the range of activities and, above all, the fellowship of the other residents. But, what we her family love, is the fact we know she is happy and safe in an environment where the staff genuinely have time and care for their residents.”
Thank you Katy, both for holding the fundraising tea and for taking the time to write to tell us how happy your grandmother is at Manson House.
