R.A.B.I’s Derbyshire Committee were delighted to hold a fundraising evening at Hansons Auctioneers and Valuers at Etwall, near Derby, after the success of a similar event last year.
The centre is well know because of the work of Charles Hanson on the many TV antiques programmes such as Bargain Hunt where he not only helps customers choose antiques to buy but also hosts many of the follow up auctions at his own base.
On the evening 50 committee members and friends brought along their own items to be discussed and valued by Adrian Rathbone, Associate Director and Matthew Lafite, silver specialist. Several guests were delighted to hear details about their items including their age, area of production and likely value.
Adrian and Matthew also talked in detail about some of the items they particularly liked in their next Fine Arts Auction including some specialist silver items. Guests were especially interested in a small item that no-one was able to identify as a silver cheese scoop.
Guests enjoyed drinks and buffet prepared by committee members and then spent some time looking at the fabulous range of items on display at Hanson’s for the imminent Fine Arts and Jewellery Auction. Several lengthy discussions followed about who would like what for forthcoming birthdays and anniversaries!
