R.A.B.I trustee John Stanley and his wife Pat, who is a former trustee, hosted a garden party at their home near Coalville in Leicestershire and raised £2,225.
Pat served as trustee for eight years after she was appointed in 2007, and re-elected in 2011. She retired from her position in 2015. John became a trustee in 2016.
The couple run Blackbrook Longhorns, an award winning farm that specialises in rearing English longhorn cattle. Their current herd was established in 1989. John and Pat also have a keen interest in art and they combined this with their passion for farming to establish the Blackbrook Gallery – a collection of 19th century animal paintings.
Garden party guests were treated to drinks on the lawn while regional manager Mary Martin entertained them on double bass. They were joined by a number of the longhorn herd and asked to guess the weight of one of the cows, which was an impressive 1,050kg.
A dinner of roast pork and beef, donated by the Stanleys, was served in the yard. Sandra and Anthony Herbert provided some delicious strawberries for afters.
