A countryside meeting, held at the Leicestershire Racecourse, is expected to raise more than £6,000.
Supporters in attendance enjoyed a day of races on the course’s grounds, which cover 220 acres of greenery.
Leicestershire committee members raised funds by selling more than 100 hospitality packs for guests, which included drinks on arrival, a two-course buffet meal, access to Tote betting services in the Hospitality Pavilion and a presentation from a betting tipster.
The committee also secured the support of Sharford Tractors and Longlife Calcium Carbonates, who sponsored two of the races. A bottle tombola at the end of the night raised £1,000 alone.
Veronica Sutton, Leicestershire committee chair, said: “It was a fantastic evening. There was a wonderful buzz of people who turned out to enjoy the races. We had a dozen or so trade stands there, which added to the ambiance.”
Mary Maud, regional manager for the East Midlands, added: “It was the first time we’d organised a race meeting at Leicester and it was a lot of work – but great fun too! The Leicestershire committee took on the challenge of putting this event together and worked hard to see it through.”
