At the age of 71, Mervin is preparing to tackle this Sunday’s London Marathon for the first time.
Mervin farms cattle and sheep in the Shropshire hills on the Welsh border, with Offa’s Dyke running right through his farm. He has farmed for a living for 52 years. He said: “In terms of training for London I think I’m doing enough. I live 1,300ft above sea level and the flattest bit I can find to run takes me up to 1,600ft which is certainly good for the legs.”
Mervin has been a fantastic supporter of R.A.B.I in Shropshire over the years. His wife, Trish, sadly passed away last November after a two-year battle with cancer. Although she will not be able to see him cross the finish line at the London Marathon, she did cheer him through the Liverpool Marathon that Mervin completed in 4hrs 53mins and 04secs.
