A harvest supper at Plas Yn Dre, Bala, raised close to £500 to support R.A.B.I’s work in Merionethshire. A cheque for £783.81 was also presented during the evening by the NFU in Merionethshire.
The buffet supper was arranged by our Merionethshire committee and music and poetry was provided by Bryn Terfel Scholarship winner Gwen Elin and her brother Deio Morgan Jones, from Anglesey (pictured below).
The NFU donation came from closed farmers’ mart accounts, used to sell untraceable sheep following the introduction of Merionethshire NFU’s 1994 plan to deal with roaming sheep. The NFU generously decided that the money remaining in the accounts should be shared equally between R.A.B.I in Merionethshire and the North Wales Air Ambulance.
R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “Thank you to all who attended this fundraiser. Our events are always well supported in Merionethshire and once again, this was a very sociable evening. Thanks also to Gwen Elin and Deio Morgan Jones who entertained everyone with a wonderful variety of hymns, self-penned songs and poetry readings.”
Merionethshire R.A.B.I county chair Olwen Jones added: “I’d like to thank the NFU in Merionethshire for their kindness and generosity. This significant donation will make a great deal of difference to our work supporting farming families in the region.”
