Over 230 people attended the NFU Shropshire Chairman’s Lunch this year, helping to raise an incredible £6,000 for farmers in need.
The annual event, organised by the NFU County Chairman and R.A.B.I’s Shropshire Committee, was this year held at Ludlow Race Club. Richard Yates, NFU Shropshire County Chairman welcomed guests to the event and spoke about the EU referendum and the need for farmers to be positive about the future of the British farming industry.
Everyone enjoyed a great selection of local produce prepared by the R.A.B.I committee, with assistance from Oak Apple Catering. Our thanks to Wenlock Sping Water, Shropshire Berries and Abbleby’s Cheeses who all donated food.
We are also grateful to the NFU Group Secretaries in the county who provided sponsorship which enabled the team to cover the cost of the meat and salmon for the meal. Many enjoyed second helpings of their main course, and there was a fantastic array of puddings on offer – all kindly donated by the R.A.B.I committee and their supporters.
A raffle raised £680 with a promise auction raising a further £1,730. Top prize was a meal hosted by R.A.B.I Shropshire Chairman Christine Downes.
In total, the event raised an amazing £6,000 for R.A.B.I which will go to support their work supporting farmers and farming families in Shropshire.
Special thanks to everyone who helped, contributed or attended the lunch. See you next year!
