In June 2014 a team of NFU Mutual group secretaries including Stephen Rank, Tania Conway, Kate Sowden, Richard Forsyth, Catherine Bowman, Nick Murphy, Cath Reed and Martyn Jeal (above) completed a 4 day, 300 mile cycle ride in aid of R.A.B.I raising more than £4,500 for the charity’s welfare work.
The Dennis Brown Shield is awarded to the organisation, company or non-YFC club which raises the most money during the year.
The trophy was presented to the group by R.A.B.I Northumberland chairman, Stoker Frater at the Northumberland Summer Lunch in Whalton Village Hall in July. A fabulous £1,500 was raised at the lunch and 96 people attended.
R.A.B.I regional manager Sally Conner accepted the award, presented by NFU deputy president Minette Batters, on behalf of the team at R.A.B.I’s annual meeting on 13 May and was pleased that the trophy finally found its way to the team.
Sally said: “I would like to thank the NFU team wholeheartedly for raising such a terrific amount of money to aid our welfare work as well as awareness of our cause. One in four farmers live on or below the breadline and our work is crucial in the farming community.”
