R.A.B.I has provisionally booked 12 spaces to ‘walk The Big One’ at Blackpool Pleasure Beach on the night of Friday 7 October. This is not something for the faint-hearted as it’s 235ft to the summit of the Big One, among the world’s tallest roller coasters.
Becky Davies, R.A.B.I’s intrepid regional manager in the West Midlands, is looking for some brave souls to accompany her to the top – and she says the view of Blackpool’s illuminations is sure to be spectacular.
Becky said: “This is a unique chance to walk to the summit of the highest point of ‘The Big One’ rollercoaster and I am looking for some people, perhaps YFC members, to join me, hopefully a couple representing each county in the West Midlands. As this is something a little different I would hope that it would provide a unique opportunity to raise the profile of R.A.B.I and also the great charity work that goes on within the YFC movement.
“It’s a Friday night so I would expect there would be a chance to explore some of Blackpool’s night life after we have conquered the summit of The Big One!”
R.A.B.I gives out grants of around £219,000 each year supporting farming families in the West Midlands.
Becky added: “In terms of fundraising, we are suggesting that each person aims to get £100 in sponsorship to walk the Big One. On top of this there will be a £25 per person admission fee, which is a 50% discount on what Blackpool Pleasure Beach would normally charge. There will be no admission fee for any individuals who manage to raise more than £250 in sponsorship.”
