Members of the R.A.B.I’s Monmouthshire committee will be on hand at both shows, thanks to the generosity and kindness of the two show committees and Gwilym Richards & Co Auctioneers.
R.A.B.I was formed in 1860 and gives out grants of around £2m each year to farming people in financial need. Last year, R.A.B.I helped around 200 families across Wales and gave out grants of £263k to farming families in hardship and distress.
The hardworking Monmouthshire committee was only formed in 2015, but has already organised a string of successful fundraising events in the county.
Gwilym Richards, chair of R.A.B.I’s Monmouthshire committee, said: “We are extremely grateful to both show societies for allowing R.A.B.I to have stands on my extended pitch. These are very challenging times for many people in the farming world and we greatly appreciate the help that individuals, organisations and rural businesses provide.”
Kate Beavan, secretary of the Monmouthshire committee, has designed a 2017 farming calendar to raise funds for their newly-formed committee. Copies of the Monmouthshire calendar will be available to purchase at the R.A.B.I stand at both shows, priced £10.
Kate said: “I hope the good people of Monmouthshire will support us by purchasing a copy of our calendar. I’ve tried to portray the farming year and I had a lot of fun choosing suitable images.”
Neil Smith, treasurer of the committee, added: “We urge people not to suffer in silence, but to talk to R.A.B.I’s welfare team in complete confidence. Talking to people at rural shows will hopefully contribute towards the work of this amazing charity, which assists farming people of all ages, without prejudice or judgement.”
