R.A.B.I. committee members, Derek and Vicki Crush were recently recognised at the Sussex Food & Drinks Awards, winning ‘Sussex Farmers Market of the Year’ award for the Steyning Farmers Market in West Sussex. Derek and Vicki started the farmers market and have run it for over 15 years and juggle this responsibility with running their own farm as well as organising and attending fundraising events for R.A.B.I..
Accepting the award in Brighton from farmer’s daughter and Olympic champion Sally Gunnell, Derek said: “I would just like to thank everybody. Those that haven’t won this year, don’t give up – it has taken us 15 years to do this.”
R.A.B.I. regional manager Sally Field said: “Their contribution to R.A.B.I. over the last ten years has been enormous, as well as arranging the annual skittles evening on their farm which consistently raises around £1,000 a year, they organise farm walks and even donated the proceeds from a cookery book compiled through the farmers market. It’s fantastic that their contribution to local produce has been recognised by the Sussex Food & Drink Awards, and we look forward to continuing working with them into 2015.”
