Almost 200 tractor drivers from across England and Wales gathered to participate in the 10th annual Welsh National Tractor Road Run (WNTRR) on Sunday 16 June in Llanwrtyd Wells. The event, which was held in support of RABI and Cancer Research Wales, received a warm response from the local community who were keen to join in on the excitement.

Founded by vintage vehicle enthusiasts and siblings John and Anne Bates of Rhayader, the WNTRR has become a prominent fundraising event, raising more than £50,000 for various charities over the past decade. This year, the Run was organised by local farmer Evan Lewis and his team, including Dai Roberts and Jim and Sandra Davies from Llanwrtyd Wells Tractor Enthusiasts.

To start the day, Evan Lewis welcomed attendees and invited John Bates, cofounder of the WNTRR, to share insights into the event’s history. Following this, local county councillor Peter James MBE and Liz Rees from RABI each gave a speech. After the speeches, a raffle was drawn, and a commemorative cap, shirt and jacket was auctioned off to the highest bidder. Then, participants eagerly took their places at their tractors, ready to commence the road run.

Evan Lewis led the procession in a Ford 3000 decorated with Welsh dragons. As the tractors paraded through the town centre, they were met with cheers and waves from the onlooking crowd. For many, the sight of Meredydd Evan’s Deutz tractor was a particular highlight, with its colourful bunting and balloons.

The tractors then continued their journey through the surrounding communities of Llanwrtyd Wells, completing a scenic circuit before returning to town after a refreshment break. In total, the event raised £3,500 for RABI. We are delighted to receive this generous donation, which will help us continue making a meaningful difference to the farming community.
