On 29 September at the Essex Harvest Festival, volunteer Peter Hickling was honoured with the High Sheriff’s Award in recognition of his outstanding service to Essex RABI. Presented by Daniel Hurst, the current High Sheriff of Essex, the award acknowledges Peter’s unwavering commitment and hard work, which have ensured the smooth operation of the committee and the ongoing success of its fundraising efforts.
Peter has been an invaluable member of Essex RABI for an incredible 25 years, serving as both Treasurer and Secretary. Over the years, Peter has earned a reputation for organising and overseeing a wide array of events with remarkable composure and clarity, with one chairman describing him as “the presence of steady calmness”, a sentiment that many wholeheartedly share.
Lucy Bellafontaine, RABI Regional Manager for the East of England, said, “I am very proud to have Peter as one of our volunteers. He is dedicated to the work he does, friendly and fun to work with. Over the past 25 years, he has made significant contributions to RABI, positively impacting many in the farming community”.
It was all a delightful surprise for Peter. His wife, Gill, skillfully kept the plans under wraps and invited their son to witness the special moment Peter received the award.
