A very interesting and informative farm walk was held at the 320 hectare Allerton Project, Loddington, Leicestershire on the evening of 30 June.
The walk was hosted by Dr Alastair Leake, Director of Policy & The Allerton Project who gave an insight into the research of different farming methods on wildlife and the environment throughout the one and a quarter hour walk. Dr Leake spoke about sustainable farming methods, biodiversity & habitat creation, integrated pest management and rural landscape management.
The Allerton Project is one of the leading demonstration farms in the UK and includes ongoing, long term, fully costed regenerative farming and tillage research, Agroforestry, methods to reduce GHG emissions from ruminants and developing a hedgerow carbon code.
This enjoyable evening finished with a Ploughman’s Supper back at the visitor centre, which was well received after the walking tour.
