Andy Dodd, a consultant for the Farm Consultancy Group in Chippenden, finished the London Marathon in 5 hours and 1 minute. So far, he’s raised £900 for R.A.B.I and Lyme Disease Action.
Andy said: “Running the London Marathon has always been an ambition of mine and 2019 was obviously my year as I was incredibly lucky to secure a ballot place, one of approximately 15,000 out of well over 400,000 who applied.
“The day itself was everything I’d hoped it would be, fantastic atmosphere, crowds every step of the way and with my name on the front of my shirt, it was like most of London knew me!”
As a farm consultant, Andy comes into contact with a lot of farming people and understands the difficulties of the industry. He added: “Agriculture can be a very isolated industry to work in and R.A.B.I helps support rural families through bereavement, illness, injury and financial hardship.”
Despite not planning to run the marathon again, Andy has already put his name in the ballot for next year. He said: “I vowed to my wife that I was never going to do it again as I ran down the home straight, but I was so close to my goal of going under 5 hrs, I entered the ballot for next year before I got home. Fingers crossed I get a second chance!”
