Volunteers in Carmarthenshire organised fundraisers over three consecutive nights to raise £1,902.
The Carmarthenshire committee kicked things off with a bingo evening at the mart café, followed by a whist drive at Cwrt Henri the following night. They rounded off a busy week with a concert at Llangyndeyrn Hall, featuring Côr Meibion Mynydd Mawr and members from Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi. Also performing were Pembrokeshire soprano Jessica Robinson, a dairy farmer’s daughter from Llandissilio, and the Carmarthen Ukulele Group.
The choir performed a selection of popular songs and crowd favourites, with Jeff Thomas conducting and Catherine Lodwick accompanying on piano. Jessica Robinson began with operatic aria Una Voce Poco Fa and also included a number of traditional Welsh songs. Jessica was accompanied on piano by Jonathan Morgan.
Regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “I’d like to thank our Carmarthenshire county committee for such a big undertaking. It took a lot of effort and commitment from many people to bring these events together in a single week.”
Noel Morgan, joint county committee chairman, added: “It was wonderful to see so many people supporting us in different ways – including Roger Thomas, for his very generous donation. The backing we received from the public made all the effort worthwhile.”
