Nicola Drew (NFU Cymru’s Wales Woman Farmer of the Year 2019) married Gwion Pughe on 20 August 2021. The day after the ceremony the newly-weds kindly hosted a fundraising lunch for RABI and AGE Cymru in the wedding marquee at College Farm, Trefecca, Talgarth, Brecon. Guests enjoyed a delicious hog roast followed by strawberries and cream and chocolate brownies. RABI received a generous donation of £2,474.
The quiz was won by a team comprising of Peter and Ann Drew (brides parents) and Rob and Audrey Lewis, (Rob was Brecon and Radnorshire NFU chairman 2018 & 2019) the prize was a night away at ‘Cabin Pren’, which is a delightful cabin on Gwion (the grooms) family farm at Darowen, Machynlleth.
Top auction prize was a holiday for 2 to Scotland donated by Paul Campbell of Pedigree tours. The trip includes farm and distillery tours, and first class rail travel to Edinburgh, where Pedigree Tours will take over the whole first class carriage. The accommodation will be in four star hotels. Pedigree tours have hosted tours for the Brecon and Radnorshire NFU in the past. The final four bidders had all been on Pedigree Tours trips in the past so that shows how good they are! Pedigree Tours organise trips for The Grassland Society. This made £1110.
The second highest auction prize was a shooting day at The Griffin Lloyd Shooting Ground, this is owned by Nicola’s Aunt and is in Llangunllo near Knighton. This made £300 and was bought by David James from Trevithel Court.
The third highest was a bottle of sheep drench donated by Hay and Brecon Farmers and this was bought by the brides father, Peter Drew.
