RABI has been offering guidance, financial support, and practical care to farming people since 1860. By leaving a legacy today, you are supporting the next generation of farmers. Some also choose to leave a gift to RABI to remember a loved one.
We understand that family come first, but if you can, please consider leaving us a gift in your will. This is one of the easiest ways of making a significant gift. Leaving just 1% of your estate will make a big difference to our work.
Making a Will
There are different types of legacy, including:
- Residuary legacy – gifting of your estate after all debts have been cleared. This is an effective way to divide your estate between several people and causes that are important to you. Or you could choose to leave your farm or home in its entirety to RABI.
- Pecuniary legacy – a gift of a fixed sum of money (the value of which will decrease over time, as the cost-of-living increases).
- Specific – This is a gift of a specific item in your will.
How to make a Will
Choosing a solicitor – You will need to find a registered solicitor to help you with your will. You may have a solicitor that you have used before or one that has been recommended to you. If not, the Law Society can help you find a suitable solicitor. Call them on 020 7320 5650.
What should I consider when making a Will?
Your solicitor should be able to help answer any questions. But it’s a good idea to know how much your estate is worth, including items such as jewellery, cars, home contents as well as your home. It’s also useful to know if you have any debts, loans or monies owed to you.
Do I need to tell RABI that I’ve left a gift in my Will?
We understand that some people would rather not say what is in their will and so you do not have to tell us if you have left us a gift.
However, if you do want to let us know then we would love to hear from you. You can reach us on 01865 724931 or at fundraising@rabi.org.uk. Thank you for your kind support.
