During Mental Health Awareness Week 2022, RABI is focusing on everyday practices that can easily be introduced into farming people’s daily routines to help improve their sense of wellbeing.
Throughout the annual awareness campaign, RABI is sharing expert advice from trained counsellor Nathan Shearman. As the head of training and therapy at RABI’s partner organisation, Red Umbrella, Nathan provides five simple tips in a short video which can be seen here.
“RABI’s partnerships with professional mental health experts, such as the in-person counselling service via Red Umbrella and the online wellbeing resources available on our Kooth and Qwell’s platforms gives farming people flexible access to the support they need, when they need it,” says Caron Whaley, RABI’s director of services.
“The mental health tips Nathan has recorded, show that taking simple, small steps made in our day-to-day lives can make a difference to how we’re feeling.”
We recognise that the day-to-day life of many farmers is relentless,” Nathan explains. “It’s not realistic to expect people to make dramatic changes to their lifestyle or work schedule on farm but it’s important to look at introducing some minor adjustments that will have a long-lasting benefit over time.”
