Welcome to the latest online newsletter for RABI volunteers.
We’ve created this bi-monthly digital update in response to your feedback for more current information on what’s happening across RABI, as well as to provide more opportunities for you to get involved.
If you have any feedback or stories you’d like to share with us, please get in touch at volunteering@rabi.org.uk
We hope you enjoy the read!
Worth and wellbeing
Last week, we launched our Empowering the Worth and Wellbeing of Farming People initiative at the House of Lords. This initiative is a year-long series of activities to bring Parliamentarians, opinion formers, RABI partner organisations and other sector allies together to discuss concerns and find solutions, ensuring the voice of our farming community is heard and understood.
You can read more about the initiative here – including the pledges that we and others are making to empower the worth and wellbeing of farming people.
If you’d like to find out more on the RABI pledges and wish to make your own, please click here.
Attracting new volunteers
We are working with the Volunteer Voice group to improve our approach to recruiting new volunteers. This includes improvements to our webpages, the introduction of a simple application form, a light touch volunteering handbook and improved communications from us to you.
We are also trialling a new Summer Events volunteer role to give people a taste of volunteering with RABI at a show or event.
Find out more about the role by clicking here.
If you want more information about what is happening or have ideas about new volunteering roles, please contact your local Regional Volunteer Manager.
Breakfasts, beef dinners and county balls
Many thanks to all volunteers and committees who have been busy organising various events to bring the local community together. Whether it’s a farmhouse breakfast, an evening ball or local beef dinner in support of Great British Beef Week (GBBW), every event is a fantastic opportunity to engage local farming people.
GBBW runs from April 23-April 30 and celebrates our naturally delicious British beef. We would love for you to share images of your events online and use the hashtag #GBBW24.

BaConversation
East Yorks RABI and Regional Volunteering Manager Sally Conner hosted the second BaConversation event in Driffield on 13 April.
The informal gathering brought together over 50 farming people from the local community. You can read more about the event here.
Are you and your committee looking at ways to connect farming people? If so please get in touch at volunteering@rabi.org.uk as we are looking to bring interested people together to discuss future plans.
I Can’t Stand Sheep!
You may have been one of the 20,000 people who you got a chance to see Kaleb Cooper on tour. We’re now excited to share that the music video to accompany his ‘I Can’t Stand Sheep!’ charity single for RABI has now been released for all to view. Click the image below and enjoy the show!
Top tips for events
Off the back of your feedback in the volunteer survey, we are putting together brief guidance to help with planning and running a great fundraising event. This will include top tips from committees and clarify things such as use of the RABI brand.
Two of our Regional Volunteer Managers, Kate Jones and Lucy Bellefontaine, are leading on this and would love to hear from you. What are your top tips to running a great event? What would you like to see in the guidance?
Please email volunteering@rabi.org.uk by Friday 31 May 2024.
New volunteer clothing
It’s been great that so many of you have been wearing the new RABI volunteer branded clothing.
We are in the process of creating a new order form, including the chance to purchase items such as RABI aprons. More information will follow soon.
If you’d like to share any pictures of you and your team in the new clothing, please send them to volunteering@rabi.org.uk
